Aug 22, 2012 - This past weekend the NAPA 100 and 200 were held at Montreal’s Circuit Gilles Villeneuve and featured some local talent. The NAPA 100, which is part of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series, featured two Kahnawa’kehró:non, Dexter Stacey and Derek White. Stacey qualified 29th while White qualified 34th.
It was a hard fought race, with a lot of action. Stacey ended his race at lap 16 after his driveshaft snapped and ruptured his oil tank, leaving a trail of oil. Still, Stacey did manage to finish 31st. White had experienced brake problems but made progress throughout the race and finished 23rd to eventual winner JR Fitzpatrick.
Both Stacey and White also qualified for the Nationwide Series race, which was held later Saturday afternoon. In an action packed race, led for the most part by Danica Patrick, Stacey and White, both on a two-race contract with their teams, proved they could compete with the best. Stacey had the misfortune of spinning out and then later getting a blowout, but managed to finish 35th. White meanwhile, made his way through the mayhem, and finished a very respectable 18th, in an accident filled finish.
The two Kahnawa’kehró:non made the community proud with their efforts and ability.
