A Voice from the Eastern Door
An afternoon of food, games, prizes and fun was held at the Seniors Center in Akwesasne on Friday. Those who were there had the opportunity to play Ace to King, a trivia game called Brain Drain, and Bingo. Participating in each of the games earned entries into the drawing at the end of the picnic. Prizes for the drawing were one year, six months, and three months worth of congregate meals, every day at the Seniors Center.
Finally there was a poker walk for everyone who wanted to pay $5 dollars and take part. The poker walk consisted of activities, which the players had to complete for a card. The first card was given after throwing a beanbag into a target. The second card was awarded after a small pile of wood was stacked. The third card was awarded when laundry was hung on a rack, the fourth to use a lacrosse stick to throw a lacrosse ball into a net. The last card was given after playing a word search game.
There were opportunities to get two additional cards to help make their hand. The first was to name the three best moments in their lives, which second place winner Ben Kelly said, “The day I was born, the day I turned 21, and the day I was married.” To get their second chance, they had to sing a song from their childhood, and that was a lot of fun, and a lot of laughs.
Winners of the poker walk:
Joy Desgagne – First Place
Ben Kelly - Second Place
Helen Santamont - Third Place
Winners of the main drawing:
Jr. David won the first prize, which is one year congregate meals.
Helen Santamont won second place, which is six months of congregate meals.
Joy Desgagne won 3 months free congregate meals, for third prize.
