A Voice from the Eastern Door
It was time to do school shopping again and for the first time I was done a week and a half early! I usually wait right until the weekend before school, but I had the opportunity to go this past weekend instead of next. What a relief to have it done and have all their new stuff tucked away in the drawers waiting for the beginning of a new school year. The reason why I would always wait until the very last minute with Big Brother’s shopping was he would grow right around the end of summer, every summer. Then he shoots up again about a month into the school year. Basically, I was trying to get an extra week or two out of the new school clothes we’d buy. I’ve come to terms with the idea of what new clothes I buy will probably not last until Big Brother’s November birthday, so I shouldn’t stress about it. Growing is a sign that he’s healthy and eating well. Like clockwork as August hit, so did Big Brother’s growth spurt. Little brother joined the August club and grew too.
This year’s shopping was fun because Big Brother knows what he likes and would find shirts he preferred and I showed him how to find his size. I let him pick out his wardrobe and I felt like I had a shopping buddy and not a prisoner. Little brother picked out all his new shirts while I got the right size. Judging by the characters on his shirts, he’s a big fan of Star Wars. I don’t know how, because he’s so young, but he knows what he likes so we bought it. Day two of shopping with Big Brother wasn’t so smooth. By his calculations he was done the day before and not in the mood to stare at clothes racks a second day in a row. Can’t really blame the kid, he was done. As I sorted out the clothes of my little boys I realized they aren’t so small anymore. The jeans and sweaters from last school year to this one have a big difference. Even little brother is now comfortable in a size four. A big growth spurt for the little one who spent almost two years fitting a size two. Pretty soon he won’t fit anything in the little boys section of the stores! Ahhh, what a sad day that will be when I can’t shop in the ‘baby section’ of the stores anymore. Big brother is just about the same shoe size as me, and thinks its hilarious to put my flip flips and sneakers on and run around the house. I know he’s waiting for the day he gets taller than me, which will be pretty soon at the rate he’s growing!
