A Voice from the Eastern Door
With Heartfelt Gratitude
The family of Percy Francis would like to clarify the tragic accident that occurred on July 29, 2012. On Saturday, July 28th Percy had attended a birthday party for his sister Mary Ella at the residence of his nephew Wayne Stehlin. After spending the entire night dancing and talking with his sister Mary Ella and family, he became tired at approximately 1 am and a bed was made for him. He was checked on at 4 am and was still in bed sleeping. He was found by his nephew Wayne at approximately 9 am. They immediately called 911 and CPR was given. He was transported to the Massena Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. An investigation was held and it was ruled as accidental. On the evening of Monday an autopsy was performed and the coroner contacted our family. She informed us that the injuries that our dad had sustained were consistent with him falling at least 17 feet. The investigators determined that he fell out of a second story window, which was located in the room that he was sleeping in. He would not have survived from the injuries and died instantly.
Although this accident occurred at his nephew Wayne’s house, we do not blame Wayne or his family for what happened. It really was a freak accident and we know our dad wouldn’t want anyone to feel responsible. He also wouldn’t want others to put blame onto Wayne or his family or hold any resentment towards them. Our father was proud of his family and would be upset should anyone feel this way to any of his family members. We are comforted to know that our dad had such an amazing night filled with love, laughter and happiness. He spent his last night with his sister Mary Ella and his brother William as well as his nephews and nieces and other family members. A wonderful time was held by all with memories that will be forever cherished.
We would like express our thanks and appreciation to family and friends that comforted us in our time of need. No matter how little or big your gesture was, we will be forever grateful. We could not have gotten through this difficult time without everyone’s love, hugs, and prayers. Our dad would be so proud of everyone who helped! All the kind words and stories that were told to us gave us comfort knowing that he brought joy to others. Although we will no longer make memories with our dad, we treasure the ones that we do have. We could not have asked for a better husband, father or grandfather. In the words of our dad “When you’re good, you’re good,” and dad you were the greatest!! Until we meet again, love you!
