A Voice from the Eastern Door
Many gardeners and CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) members have an overflow of fresh vegetables at this time of year, and often have a huge amount of one particular crop and not enough of another. By participating in the informal “Harvest Swap - Share Your Garden Bounty!” in both the villages of Potsdam and Canton, NY, one can swap out their fresh vegetables! For instance, some of those beautiful tomatoes that you just can’t get to canning now might be traded for some fresh greens or sweet corn.
The event is being held on Thursday, August 16th and 23rd, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. in Canton at the Village Green on Main and Park Streets, and then from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m in Potsdam at the Gazebo in Ives Park (rear of the municipal parking lot across from the Roxy Theater.)
All are welcome to attend this event and use it as an opportunity to share gardening questions and techniques, as well as horticultural successes and challenges, in a casual setting.
The Harvest Swap is hosted by Local Living Venture volunteers and will be held for the following two Thursdays as a trial run. If the event proves popular, it will continue into September on the same schedule.
A pass-the-hat small donation is requested of participants who are able to contribute. To get on the mailing list for future event notices please write [email protected] or call (315) 347-4223 for any questions.
The Local Living Venture (LLV) is a volunteer-run organization that coordinates many local workshops promoting traditional rural and simple living skills, as well as the Local Living Festival, to be held again on April 27, 2013.
