A Voice from the Eastern Door

A family from Oklahoma visited Akwesasne on Tuesday, July 24th.  They had attended the 2012 Kateri National Conference in Albany NY on July 18th through July 21st. They traveled after the conference to Niagara Falls, Tuscarora, Onondaga and then to Akwesasne.  They asked if they could stop at the Mohawk Nation Longhouse and meet with a condoled Chief, condoled Clanmother and a Faithkeeper.  I arranged to have these three people there to greet them and made corn soup, fry bread and strawberry drink to feed them.  They were very happy to be greeted, and listened to our Mohawk words of wisdom. Marcus is the musician for the conference, he is gifted, being able to play most any instrument put in his hand, and he also sings.  He is also very interested in traditional governments, settings and history of the Hotinonhsonni. Alma Ransom also took them on tour to St. Regis Village and the church.
