Percy G. Francis

AKWESASNE – Mr. Percy George Francis, age 74, of 1214 Island Road, Cornwall Island, tragically passed away on Sunday morning, July 29, 2012 at Massena Memorial Hospital.

Percy was born February 4, 1938 in Cornwall, the son of the late Jake Francis and Cecelia Boots Lazore. He attended schools on Cornwall Island. On July 6, 1968, he married Shirley Thompson at St. Regis Catholic Church with Rev. Michael Jacobs, officiating.

Percy was an ironworker, first working with Local 711 before transferring to Local 440. At the age of 55 he began enjoying an early retirement. He was a member of the Father Michael K. Jacobs Knights of Columbus Council #10423, the Tri-District Elders, and an Honorary Member of the Andrew W. Cook American Legion Post 1479. Percy loved playing golf and could often be found at Cedarview Golf Course. He was a sports fan, loved to watch lacrosse, and his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs. Percy also enjoyed visiting the Bingo Palace and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley; his three daughters, Kimmy and Peter Jacobs, Brenda and Charlene Francis, all of Cornwall Island; his grandchildren, Cody Jacobs and Michaela Francis; his sister, Mary Ella Stehlin of Frogtown; his brother, William Francis of Cornwall Island and many nieces and nephews.

He is also survived by his chosen siblings, Art Bova of Sugarbush Island; Hilda and Mike Smoke of Akwesasne; and Wilfred Bova of Cornwall Island; his mother-in-law, Mae Thompson of Cornwall Island; and his beloved dog, Princess.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Lawrence and Thomas Francis and Francis and Harvey Lazore; and his chosen sister, Nancy Chaussi.

Friends called at the Tri-District Elders beginning Tuesday, July 31st until a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated Thursday 2:00 PM at St. Regis Catholic Church with Rev. Jerome Pastores, celebrating. 12:30 PM Thursday. Burial will follow in Kateri Cemetery, Akwesasne.
