Shooting and House Fire On River Road

On Wednesday, July 4th, a shooting took place at a River Road residence in Snye. Following a verbal altercation, three men leaving a residence were shot at. After an investigation in to the reported shooting, police arrested 36-year-old Robert Jon Lazore at the residence where the shooting took place, on weapons related charges. Following a search of 2 additional residences, a second man, 27-year-old Cory Tyler Edwards, was also arrested. Both men were remanded to custody until their bail hearings on July 9th.

From the statement released by the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Chief Jerry Swamp on 7/10:

“Robert Jon Lazore 36 was arrested and charged with the following offences:

2 counts of “Reckless Discharge of a Prohibited Firearm”, “Assault With a Weapon”, “Use of a Firearm While Committing an Offence”, “Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm”, “Uttering a Death Threat”, 2 counts of “Fail to Comply with a Weapon Prohibition”, and 2 counts of “Breach of Recognizance”, all contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. Lazore was also charged with “Production of a Substance” contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.” “Also charged in the investigation was Cory Tyler Edwards 27, for “Possession of a Prohibited Firearm”, and “Fail to Comply” contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.”

The next day, a house fire took place at a River Road residence in Snye on July 5th. Following an emergency call, Fire and Police Services were dispatched to the scene at 3AM. Once on scene battling the blaze, authorities learned there were two people trapped in the house. Thankfully, both people were able to escape through a basement window uninjured. Afterwards, the fire was brought under control and it was determined that the fire, which had badly damaged the residence, had been intentionally set. The investigation continues into the nearly fatal fire, and police wished to commend the excellent work by HAVFD from the same press release on 7/10:

“I commend the work of our Dispatcher and Fire Department, they did an excellent job in helping the two occupants escape” said Chief Jerry Swamp. “However, these people narrowly escaped death. Other community members and properties in the vicinity could have been affected.”

As the investigation is ongoing, police are asking for assistance from the community. Anyone with information can call AMPS at 315-575-2340 and ask to speak to an officer.
