A Voice from the Eastern Door
On Tuesday, July 3rd, the Dream Big-READ program was launched for children in Pre-k through 1st grade. Tuesday consisted of an introduction to the Dream Big-READ program, which is a statewide Summer Library Program, which has a nighttime theme this year. Robin Logan, the person teaching the program with the children, chose many books which she felt worked with the theme and that she enjoyed. This is Logan’s first year participating with the program at the Library, which does it every year. Logan organized this year’s program along with Glory Cole.
The program, which runs through grade 6 will be held into August. First up was the Pre-K through 1st grade kids, which will have their last day on July 12th. The second and third grade program will be held from July 17th through July 26th. Grades four through six will be held from the 31st of July until the middle of August. There is a planned field trip to the planetarium at SUNY Potsdam and a barbeque luncheon for all age groups to wrap the program up on August 15th. To add to the program, Logan intends to make use of the smartboard the Akwesasne Library has. Logan, who has some games designed for the smartboard, wants to incorporate it because the higher grades are already using it.
So do get your elementary children in to the library and have them take part in this program. The planetarium fieldtrip alone should be motivation enough to spark the interest of the kids.
