SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direction of the Chief of Police, the incumbent is responsible to provide operational supervision and coordinate the deployment of uniformed personnel; assist in the assurance of peace, order, protection and security of persons and property in and for the Mohawk Territory of Akwesasne. Responsible to ensure that all AMPS members are fully versed in policing techniques and conform to established policies and procedures, are fully trained in the conduct of police activities and administering discipline. To fully ensure a service delivery to the Community that is consistent with the AMPS philosophy and mission statement.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent; and completion of Basic Constable Training Certificate or equivalent academy; and a minimum of five years continuous work experience as police officer with Supervision in policing.
Considerable knowledge of modern law enforcement principles, procedures, techniques, and equipment. Considerable knowledge of laws, ordinances, and department rules and regulations. Extensive knowledge of Akwesasne’s geography.
Ability to train and supervise subordinate personnel; Ability to perform work requiring good physical condition; Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, peers, supervisors and the general public; Ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and in making decisions; Ability to follow and give verbal and written instructions. Ability to meet Department’s physical standards required.
