A Voice from the Eastern Door
Stacey has been an EMT for over two years. She likes the job because everyday is different and you are not stuck behind a desk. She also enjoys that sometimes after a call, patients will send thank you cards or put a thank you in the newspaper. It makes EMTs feel appreciated. One hard thing about her job is never knowing who a patient will be because it might be a friend or family member. A troublesome part of being an EMT at AMA is understaffing. On weekdays they run two rigs, but on weekends they only run one rig with two EMTs. A common misconception Stacey cleared up was that there is no busiest day of the week for the ambulance, however in general; summer is a busier time of year. Sometimes they have to call back-up because of the understaffing, and sometimes they are held up by a non-emergency call and unable to respond to a real emergency. These are the parts of the job that make it difficult. Through all that, Stacey likes working at AMA. They have great resources like counseling after tough calls. AMA works closely with the Fire Department, Tribal Police and AMPS, and Stacey is grateful when they are on scene first to secure it. We salute Stacey for her service to the community. Thanks Stacey!
