A Voice from the Eastern Door

Project Sticker Shock

The SRMT Alcoholism/Chemical Dependency Prevention programs along with community youth have once again implemented Project “Sticker Shock”. This project addresses the underage drinking concerns in our community. It focuses on those individuals who legally purchase alcohol and warns them that it is illegal to provide it to underage persons. Youth that participated in Project “Sticker Shock” visited local participating stores and placed stop sign stickers that display a warning message about the penalties for providing alcohol to anyone under the age of 21. These stickers were placed on beer cases, wine coolers, and other alcohol products that might appeal to young drinkers. The project represents the partnership between youth, retailers, prevention professionals, law enforcement, and concerned community members. The goal is to educate anyone thinking of supplying alcohol to a person under 21, raise awareness about underage drinking, and raise awareness of the law against providing alcohol to minors. This is a way for youth throughout the state to take a proactive stand against underage drinking and its related problems. Thank you too all the youth and local convenience stores that participated in Project “Sticker Shock”.
