A Voice from the Eastern Door
On May 11, 2012, the Pamoja International Cultural Exchange Inc. organization auctioned a Mother’s Day basket that was won by Bessie Mitchell at 37 West Steakhouse and Lounge. The hand-painted basket was on display at SeaComm Federal Credit Union in Massena and the restaurant during the prior week. Bessie was delighted with the items in the basket, especially the Elgin diamond watch and sterling silver earrings. Bessie revealed that the gigantic chocolate egg that was also in the basket was so delicious that she had eaten half of it by Monday night, the day after Mother’s day. There were other items which Bessie was happy to receive in the basket such as the crystal bird, light-up stand, gold tone ink pen and key chain.
On April 27 and 28, PICEI, as it has done for the past 8 years, participated in the Bon-Ton Community Day Event at the St. Lawrence Center Mall. Each time, PICEI has given a free raffle to those who supported them by donating $5.00, which provided our supporters with the buying power of $10.00 plus many other discounts. Members and non-members said they saved hundreds of dollars that way.
The last winner of the free drawing was Ms. B. Yven, ticket #562638 of Canada on April 28th. Andrew Perry, teacher, lead performer of the “Drew Crew Cloggers” and a new member of PICEI, assisted with the drawing.
Betty Swamp will be traveling with the dance troupe, the oldest dancer in the troupe, to Hawaii in December of this year. PICEI will work with the youth to help raise some of the necessary funds in November at Bon-Ton on the community days, November 9th and 10th. PICEI would appreciate the support of the community to help make their trip a successful one.
PICEI’s Annual “Last Shall Be First 50/50” drawing is available for purchase at this time. The drawing will be held at 37 West in Hogansburg on Saturday, October 6, 2012. The drawing is so much fun. We hope you will join them for dinner. PICEI asks for your support with this project by purchasing a ticket for $100.00 or a segment for just $10.00, and win up to $5,000.00 or $1,000.00 respectively. Only one hundred tickets will be sold. Other prizes are given throughout the drawing. Winner need not be present.
Last October 27th to November 5th 2011, PICEI had the pleasure of going to the Caribbean. The members enjoyed the Cultural Seminar Cruise aboard the elegant “Explorer of the Seas”. They were mesmerized by the professional ice show along with the many other theatrical shows and Halloween parade during the unforgettable cultural cruise.
Next August 2013, PICEI will travel to Alaska; those that have an interest in traveling should contact PICEI as soon as possible. Perhaps attending the meeting at the Senior Building in Akwesasne on May 30, 2012, would be a good time to let PICEI know of your interest. The future trips planned are South Africa (2014), Senegal and Asia (2015), Brazil (2016).
