A Voice from the Eastern Door
With 24 / 7 access to information about absolutely anything imaginable or not imagined, it’s no wonder that we are living in an era full of ideas and inventions that are amazing, strange, and even outrageous.
Fashion designers are creating clothing and swimwear that will fully charge your mobile phones with solar panels. Keidai Ogawa creates interactive posters of his favorite pop idols. They will actually respond to a person when they kiss the poster. ‘The King’s Idea’ is another Japanese invention that lets you look inside your ears while you clean them with a video camera attached to an ear pick. I always wondered what ear potatoes looked like in their natural habitat!
Pawsense was designed by a software inventor Chris Niswender to detect if a cat lies on your keyboard. Chris’s software will block ‘catty’ typing until the screen is unlocked. This sounds like an awesome way to protect you from the harm that can be done when your family pet accidentally sends crazy messages out to your boss and family.
A dog translator promises to enlighten us about what our dogs are really trying to say with a printed translation. I wonder how the bowlingual dog translator will analyze Akwesasne’s rez dogs with their Snye or Frogtown accents?
The smelly robot was invented to respond to social media. It will send out smells to alert you about twitter re-tweets, Facebook messages and new email. You can put any perfume or oil in the robot. Perhaps I will put a piece of spam in the robot and give it to my friend that gets the most spam.
Any kind of household gadget that has ever been made has also been integrated with the internet with tiny computer screens, wireless internet, and various mobile software to help share recipes, monitor temperature, weather, receive emails, and reminders.
The banana foam case for cell phones looks the most promising to me today. Imagine the fun of answering your cell phone when it looks like a giant yellow banana.
I’ve shared a few amazing, strange, and outrageous technology ideas and I must admit that I am most inspired by the ideas from Indian country; snow shoes, canoes, moccasins, lacrosse, astrology, talking sticks, socials, pow wows, forest gardening, and all that helps us to be the best human beings we can possibly be. Contact Indian Time if you would like to share your ideas and inventions in a future story.
