A Voice from the Eastern Door
On May 1st, 2012 at approximately 2:28 p.m., Central Dispatch was notified of shots being fired near Tsi Snaihne School. The school officials installed the “Lock Down” procedure as a precaution.
Police approached the area where gunshots could be heard. Upon police investigation a lone male was observed firing rounds into a target. The male was taken into custody without incident. A .22 calibre pistol was seized from the male. Due to the quick arrest of the suspect, police would like to stress that at no time were the students, staff of the school, or anyone in the vicinity in any immediate danger. The Principal and staff of Tsi Snaihne School are to be commended for their professionalism and efficiency in enacting to protocol.
Subject will be charged with:
Using a Restricted Weapon in a Careless Manner, contrary to Section 86 (1)(3)(a), of the Criminal Code, Possession of a Weapon Dangerous to the Public Peace, contrary to Section 88(2)a), of the Criminal Code, Possession of a Restricted Weapon, contrary to Section 91(1)(3)(a), of the Criminal Code, and Possession Contrary to a Prohibition Order, Section 117.01(1), of the Criminal Code.
Subject cannot be identified since formal charges are still to be laid in Valleyfield Provincial Court. He remains in police custody until his Bail Hearing which is scheduled for May 2nd, 2012.
