[Cornwall]: Ontario Power Generation (OPG) invites everyone to make a visit to the St. Lawrence Power Development Visitor Centre part of their summer plans.
“The Visitor Centre offers people a chance to explore the history of the St. Lawrence Seaway and Power Project and the communities it affected, including the Mohawks of Akwesasne, the Lost Villages and the City of Cornwall,” said Bill Hughes, Production/Project Manager at Robert H. Saunders Generating Station.
“Visitor can learn about OPG’s hydroelectric, thermal and nuclear generation, public and employee safety, environmental and biodiversity initiatives, and its efforts to protect the American eel,” he added.
The Centre will be open from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday to Friday from May 7 to October 5, and on Saturdays June 2, July 7, and August 11 from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.
The Visitor Centre is located on the bank of the St. Lawrence River at the end of Second Street West in Cornwall, just outside the Robert H, Saunders Generating Station. It opened in August 2010.
In partnership with the St. Lawrence River Institute of Environmental Sciences, environmental workshops are offered on the first Saturday of each month with additional dates in July and August.
The Visitor Centre is fully wheel chair accessible and admission is free.
