A Voice from the Eastern Door

Thank you,

The St. Lawrence Thunder Tier II U12 girl’s hockey team recently participated in the National Championships in Anaheim. California. They competed against the best teams in the Country finishing with a record of two wins and two losses.

On Wednesday March 30th the Thunder took on Victory Honda (Michigan) and skated to a 3-1 win. Jayden Young. Maddie Mailhot and Bailey Thomas scored. On Thursday, the Thunder squared off against the East Coast Wizards (Massachusetts). It was a hard fought game with end-to-end action. East Coast scored the game winner with less than three minutes to play in the third period winning 2-1. East Coast would eventually go on to the finals and finish as National runner-ups. The lone goal scorer for the Thunder was Mailhot. In the final round robin game, the Thunder played the Alliance Bulldogs (Texas). The Bulldogs were clearly outmatched from the face off and the Thunder pounded their way to a 9-0 win. Abbie Paquin and Herne each scored two goals. Young, Katie MacCuaig, Rachael Davis, Molly O’Connell and Mailhot each scored single goals.

On Saturday, the Thunder found themselves facing the New England Falcons. It was a tightly matched game that saw the Thunder score the first goal from Davis. It looked like that would be the game winner until the Falcons scored two quick goals late in the third period to seal the win.

While it was not the outcome that we had hoped, the experience was incredible. KC Herne. Bailey Thomas and Maya Swamp would like to thank the Akwesasne community for supporting their promising hockey careers. We would also like to thank our friends and families and the following businesses for their generous donations: American Legion Post 1497, Truck Stop #9, Wild Bills, Cooks Greenery, St. Regis Mohawk Tribe, Mohawk Council of Akwesasne, Kimmy Terrance, Jacobs Manufacturing, the Convenience Store Association and the Girls Scouts of Akwesasne and the Dream Cather Fund. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the dance and bought lasagna lunches. We appreciate your generosity. See you next season.
