A Voice from the Eastern Door
The following is an outline of a cross curriculum unit done in my 6th grade classroom here at Salmon River School District. The writing piece is a letter to the editor.
Dear Editor,
I am writing to you about Red Diamond Oil Company. They are stealing oil from Section 22, which is owned by the state of Florida. They are also scaring away the endangered Florida panthers.
Red Diamond is scaring away the endangered panthers, they have shot at one of the panthers also a mother of two cubs. Red Diamond has also set a fire and could’ve possibly burned down the whole swamp, ruining the Florida panthers habitat.
A mother panther and her cubs are living in Black Vine Swamp. Red Diamond has already scared away the mother. If the mother of the cubs does not come back soon, the cubs will never learn to hunt and will not survive in the swamp. One of the cubs has already died because it did not have the help it needed from its Mother to survive.
There are only 100 cats left in the Florida population. Where the mother and hers cubs are, they can’t be moved because Black Vine Swamp is currently the only place that fits their needs. The panthers are protected by the law and Red Diamond could potentially ruin the Florida panthers habitat.
Please help me stop Red Diamond Industry and help save these Florida panthers!
Sincerely,
Ms. Starch
