A Voice from the Eastern Door

Earth Day

Earth Day is a day in which events are held to increase awareness and appreciation of the Earth’s natural environment. It is a day in which millions of people around the world will participate in events and activities that bring environmental issues to the forefront. It is a day that shouldn’t be regulated to a single day, but rather everyday.

In communities around the world, the events that usually take place on this day include roadside cleanups and tree plantings. Our community is no exception to this elite group of global environmental soldiers. However in Akwesasne, a Native community, we should all be more environmentally conscientious every single day.

Along with participating in this year’s Roadside Clean Up on April 28, Akwesasronon can also make an impact by recycling, riding a bike instead of driving, start a compost pile and also by doing something as simple as shutting the lights off when you leave a room.

Finding information on even more ways to reduce your carbon footprint can be found by contacting MCAs Department of Environment and SRMTs Environment Division.
