AKWESASNE – Mr. Patrick Angus Chubb, 86, of 66 Helena Road, peacefully passed away early Tuesday morning, April 10, 2012 at his home under the loving care of his family and Hospice.
Pat was born March 31, 1926 in Hogansburg, the son of the late Louis and Josephine Garrow Chubb. He attended schools in Hogansburg. On April 18, 1949, he entered the US Army, serving his country in Europe as a chef and a mechanic. He was honorably discharged on October 1, 1954 as a Corporal. On October 28, 1961, he married Yvonne Skeeters at the St. Regis Catholic Church with Rev. Michael Jacobs celebrating.
Pat worked for 28 years at Shields Slipper Factory in Bombay until its closure. He then began working for the New York State Department of Transportation, where he remained for 16 years. He also worked for a short time at ALCOA and was a bus driver at Salmon River Central School for a short time. Pat was an honorary member of the Andrew W. Cook American Legion Post 1479, the St. Regis Mohawk Senior Citizens, the Tri-District Elders, and the last remaining member of the St. John the Baptist Society at St. Regis Catholic Church of which he was an active communicant. Pat was also a former member of the VFW and AMVETS in Massena and was one of the founding members of the Hogansburg/Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department. He always enjoyed celebrations at his home, especially the 4th of July festivities. He also enjoyed maintaining his lawn, fiddling, going to dances, traveling with the Jolly Tours, and spending time with his family. Pat and his wife, Yvonne, were always together and were truly loved by the Akwesasne community.
Pat is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Yvonne; his children, twins, Patrick Joseph (and wife Harriet) Chubb and Michael Morris Chubb (and companion Priscilla Thompson); son Glen “Buddy” Hill; daughter Margaret (and companion Harold Square); and his adopted daughter, Emmy Mitchell, all of Akwesasne; 9 grandchildren, William, Morgan, Alan, Andrew, Joleigh, Harrison, Tahentahawi, Kaniehtaroroks, Karontatsi, and Tekarihorens; a great granddaughter, McKenzie; his sister-in-law, Grace Chubb; his godchildren, Kenneth Cole, Jerry Laughing, and Evelyn General; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his beloved puppies, “Baby and Tippy”
He was predeceased by his brother, John Chubb on March 30, 2007; his sister, Nancy Cole on January 4, 1996; and a half brother, Joseph David, on May 9, 2004.
Friends may call at his home, 66 Helena Road, beginning Wednesday 5:00 PM until 10:00 AM, Friday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, 11:00 AM at St. Regis Catholic Church with Rev. Jerome Pastores, celebrating. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery.
