Job Interview Tips

The Consumer Corner is a part of the Indian Time newspaper to help you, the community, with your home life. To help with purchases, whether it be food or a television. With gas prices over $4.00 per gallon we all need to have our dollar go further.

The Consumer Corner tries to help you in all areas of your daily life with your family. There are many people looking for work and Akwesasne is no different. This week the Consumer Corner will offer tips on job interviews. Nervous, scared, not able to express yourself well in the interview? Try these suggestions and good luck.

1. Start the interview early: Arrive at your interview; put a smile on your face and be friendly to the receptionist or the person meeting you. It’s a great way to start out your interview and those first people you meet will have their chance to make comment to the “boss” and it will help you in the long run.

2. Do your research: You, the interviewee, needs to take the time to learn about the Company/business where you have applied for a job. Take the time to get as much information as possible. This information will help you in the interview.

Be sure to read and review the company/business’s organizational chart. Also, read, re-read and review the job description and job posting. It cannot be emphasized enough – be sure to do your homework.

3. Go in confident: go into the interview confident, look the interviewer straight in the eye with a smile on your face. Introduce yourself and have a firm handshake. Sit up straight and get comfortable. A confident person is more likely to get the job rather than the less confident person.

4. Be ready for all questions: Be prepared for an unusual question, a curve ball question. Just be yourself, answer the question and remember there are no wrong answers.

Be prepared, be relaxed, and be sure to smile or laugh and go for it. These tips/ideas are for all ages. College graduates, summer students, adults – follow the outline above and good luck! There is a job out there for you.
