A Voice from the Eastern Door
The following is an outline of a cross curriculum unit done in my 6th grade classroom here at Salmon River School District. The writing piece is a letter to the editor.
Dear Editor,
I am writing to say that Red Diamond Oil Company is making illegal oil wells on Black Vine Swamp Property destroying the homes of Florida’s protected Black Panther.
This drilling is illegal because Florida State owns the property. Doing the drilling will destroy parts of Nature and can kill some of the rare species.
There have been a few sightings of the Florida Panther. These panthers are rare to Florida and Red Diamond Oil Company is trying to harm them for the sake of the company. I myself have heard a few gunshots and know it’s the oil company. These animals are habitants to Black Vine Swamp and the Oil Company isn’t showing respect. The sighting of the panther must be a Mother because she currently left a cub behind. I have been trying to reunite the cub with his Mother and the oil company’s scaring her away.
In a way, Red Diamond Oil Company is betraying Florida State. First, wrecking Black Vine Swamps territory. Two, endangering the rare species, and three, scaring away the animals (panthers).
Red Diamond Oil Company is breaking the law in many ways and should be sent to jail. Join me to protest and make sure that happens.
Sincerely,
Twilly Spree
