A Voice from the Eastern Door

The little actor

Little brother is very animated. With a look or using body language he’ll let you know what he’s thinking. He is talking more now and his words have become clearer but he is still a man of few words. Especially around visitors or when we are out of the house. When he plays it all depends on his mood, either he is the greatest villain or hero. For the last year now he has been into his nerf guns, fake pistols, swords and ninja skills. Whoever plays with him gets to see first hand what an imagination he has. If you have a shoot out and he gets shot you are in for a real treat. He goes with the classic “Ahh you got me!” act. He clutches his chest and stumbles back. Twirls in a circle before falling into a wall. He closes his eyes as he slides down to the floor and then finally he lays there with his tongue hanging out.

When he’s in pistol, batman, or ninja mode we have to remind him he is not allowed to take his brother out. No matter how Fun it is to sneak up on your older brother and shoot him with your favorite nerf gun, we’re sorry you can’t. When he is a ninja in a sword fight he makes all the noises. Such as the metal clanking and a man fighting for his life with all the grunts and gasps. He’ll do hand stands and rolls. Other times he pretends he is a scary dinosaur stomping his feet and slowly coming towards us. He loves to chase us around the house pretending we are lunch. He is also very dramatic when it comes to bumps and cuts. If he were to really get hurt he won’t even cry, he’s tough. But if it is close to nap time or bed time you can count on it being the end of the world. Bumps need extra kisses and invisible cuts needs extra bandages and he’ll insist on being carried around like a little injured bird. He’s so convincing that my parents have thought I was being cold towards him until I peeled off a band aid to prove there was in fact no paralyzing cut to his foot. He’ll limp when you’re looking but run on supposed injured leg when you aren’t. He’s also tried to use his awesome acting skills to prolong TV time and put off bedtime. I am no fool and get to see his sad face a lot. His bottom lip comes out and quivers along with real crocodile tears running down his face. I am almost immune to that face because I know he just wants his way. Fits don’t work around here so he’s been trying this new act that should be called, ‘feel sorry for the heartbroken kid’. His dad is a sucker. He’ll feel bad and give in and when he does the frown turns back into a smile and he giggles because you just got played. Another reason Little Brother is in this phase where the only person he wants to listen to is his dad. I do have to give Little Brother credit for being so believable at times. He’s gotten his brother to give up toys, his dad to give in for more TV time, his grandma to baby him because he claimed to be hurt. However, when it comes to me he just shoots me a mean look because he knows I am on to him. I know he just a little actor.
