AKWESASNE – Mr. Lawrence J. “Pudgie” Leaf, age 74, of 1737 River Road, Snye, unexpectedly passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at Cornwall Community Hospital.

Larry was born October 26, 1937, the son of the late Ralph Leaf and Mary Jacobs Adams.  He attended schools on Cornwall Island and was a survivor of the Spanish Residential School.  He served in the US Air Force, being stationed in Texas.

Larry was a skilled electrician, working for a time in the Baltimore area, Bare Hill Prison in Malone, and at Alcoa, where he retired after 30 years of service.  He was an avid golfer and was a life member of the Cedarview Golf Course.  He was also a member of the St. Regis Mohawk Senior Citizens, Tri-District Elders, and was a committee member for Land Claims with Mohawk Council of Akwesasne.  Larry was also an exempt member of the Hogansburg Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department.  He also enjoyed fishing, playing solitaire, reading, and watching NASCAR and sports on television.  He also enjoyed watching his son play hockey, his stepson play softball, and his grandchildren play soccer. Larry also took great enjoyment in spending time with his grandchildren.

Larry is survived by his loving companion of 37 years, Ann Phillips; his son and daughter-in-law, Ralph and Jen Leaf of Lansdowne; his stepsons, Kevin Phillips and Michelle of Six Nations and Vincent Phillips and Janice Sharrow of Akwesasne; his grandchildren, Kurrgan, West, Haydn, and Ellah; his step grandson, Kevin Raymond Phillips; his stepmother, Mary Leaf of Akwesasne.

Larry is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Dwight and Pat Jemison of Binghamton, Bruce and Colleen Leaf of Akwesasne, Louie and Amy Leaf of Baltimore, Valerie Truax of Louisiana, Ronnie and Joy Brooks of Delaware, Roy and Joelene Adams, Angus and Veronica Adams, Jake and Karen Adams, and Edith McDonald, all of Akwesasne; Trudy Ann Lauzon of Fort Covington; Emily and Harold Lauzon of Bombay, Vicki and Craig Jock of Fort Covington, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by an infant granddaughter, Autumn Rayne, 3 brothers, Andrew Jemison, Thomas Leaf, and Morris Adams on October 27, 2008; his sisters, Gertrude Gray on April 10, 1997, Judy David on June 5, 2005, Joyce Christie Jocko on April 17, 2007, and Phyllis M. Lazore on November 20, 2008.

Friends may call at the Akwesasne Homemakers beginning Saturday 4:00 PM continuing until 11:00 AM Monday.  Cremation will follow.

Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Boy Scouts of America, American Diabetes Association or the National Autism Association.
