• The Seneca Nation at Tonawanda lost a condoled Clanmother, Maxine Parker last week. Her funeral was Friday, March 2, 2012 at Tonawanda Seneca Longhouse. Officiating were Leroy Hill (Six Nations) and Jamie Jacobs (from Seneca Nation).

The small condolence was held on Monday, March 5th. Leroy Hill spoke for the younger Brothers and Howard Thompson (older Brothers) replied. Janet Hill is the person to take Maxine Parker’s position.

• The Mohawk Nation Council of Chiefs has scheduled a meeting for Sunday, March 11, 2012 at the Nation Longhouse. The agenda was not finalized by the deadline of the newspaper.

The Six Nations Council held their regular monthly meeting on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at the Onondaga Longhouse. Due to the death of a condoled Clanmother the meeting was cancelled and a discussion took place on a provincial issue.

• The Haudenosaunee leadership will be participating in the Native American Indigenous People’s Caucus scheduled for March 9th, 10th and 11th, 2012 in Niagara Falls Ontario. The meeting will be hosted by the Chiefs of Ontario. Haudenosaunee representatives will come from the Tuscaroras, Onondagas, Mohawks, Senecas, Oneidas and Six Nations.

The discussions will include the Doctrine of Discovery. Oren Lyons will be a key Speaker at the session(s). A paper will be developed on the Doctrine of Discovery, which will be presented at the United Nations session on Indigenous issues scheduled for May, 2012.
