ABGC hots a Dodgeball Tournament and HAVFD Firemen's Chicken Barbeque
Each year the Akwesasne Boys & Girls Club hosts a “Kids Helping Kids” Fundraiser and on Saturday, February 18, 2012, Club Members, Staff and Board members banded together to raise funds to assist one of their own, Braxtyn Dumas. Miss Dumas is to undergo a series of medical procedures over the next year including a liver transplant and the Club wanted to provide assistance to the family.
A Dodgeball Tournament and Chicken Barbeque were planned with dedicated club members going into the community and to raise funds through pledges for the cause. The Hogansburg Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department donated their time at the grill to cook 200 chickens for the event! All the effort raised just over $1800 for the family!!! The top fundraiser awards went out to three dedicated and motivated young club members; First place went to Kahiio Terrance, Second Place to Vaughn and Talon Doxtator, and third place went to Clayton Jones, who also earned MVP in the Dodgeball Tournament!
In a thank you letter to Club staff and members, Braxton’s mom spoke about her condition further adding, “ Braxton was born with Complex Congenital Heart Diseases which has her left her pacemaker dependant, Situs Inversus (backward organs) and Bilary Atresia (liver disease). Unfortunately, her liver disease has come to the point where she will need her liver transplant within the next few months.” She also expressed her thanks, stating, “From the bottom of our hearts THANK YOU! … Knowing that there are wonderful people like you in our community making a difference in other people’s lives and teaching our kids to help others, bring warmth and comfort in a very trying time in our lives.”
Nia’wen ko:wa to all the Club Members, Staff of the ABGC, and to the community who came out and supported this year’s event!
