A Voice from the Eastern Door
AHKWESAHSNE – Mr. Paul Edgar King, Jr. age 64, of 772 River Road, unexpectedly passed away on Sunday morning, February 12, 2012, at the Cornwall Community Hospital.
Paul was born November 11, 1947 in Ahkwesahsne, Quebec, the son of Paul Sr. and Agnes Square King. He attended St. Regis and Salmon River Central School. On August 7, 1965, he married Cecelia C. Swamp at St. Regis Catholic Church with Rev. Michael Jacobs, officiating.
Paul once worked as an ironworker and at Alcoa for a short time. He later went to work as a laborer with Laborer’s Local #322 in Massena, before retiring due to his health. When Paul was younger and his health allowed, he was an outstanding athlete, playing with many sporting teams including the Snye Bums Softball Club and the Long Sault Men’s Hockey Team. Paul was an avid Washington Capitals Hockey fan and enjoyed snowmobiling as member of the Trailblazer’s Snowmobile Club. He enjoyed making Native crafts, listening to country music, tinkering with electronics, watching his grandchildren play sports, and spending time with his beloved dog, Honey. Paul was a quiet man of few words and took great enjoyment just being home or sitting under the pine tree.
Paul will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Cecelia; his three children, Aaron and Pudgie King of Ahkwesahsne, Quebec; Leanne King and John Gabri of Rooseveltown; and Dawn and Edward Lazore of Ahkwesahsne, Quebec; a chosen son, Steven King of Ahkwesahsne; and his six grandchildren, Brandi, Amanda, Jade, Blake, Millie, and Carter.
He will also be missed by his two sisters, Beatrice and James Bero and Christina King; his two brothers, Norman and Nancy King and Patrick King, all of Ahkwesahsne; and many nieces and nephews.
