A Voice from the Eastern Door
Laundry; are you a daily laundry doer or a once a week laundry doer? Either way the one goal or priority is to have whiter whites, brighter colors and cleaner clothes. Everyone tries to get cleaner/whiter clothes and this week’s laundry boosters will be the talk of the town or let us say corner.
• Oxy Clean Versatile Stain Remover: the magic in this booster is oxygen. Oxy Clean works best on the toughest protein based stains. Such stains as blood and sweat are devoured by oxygen because they are protein based.
Oxy Clean does act like bleach on whites and also has a brightening agent that makes the colors brighter. Cost: $3.99
• Tide Boost Free Duo Pact: Tide Boost helps your laundry detergent to do a better cleaning job. Instead of having to wash a stained item(s) several times to get the stain out, using Tide Boost with the laundry detergent means washing the item(s) once.
The Tide Boost has powerful enzymes that work well on wine and dirt stains. The bonus for the public – it comes in convenient, pre-measured packs. Cost: $3.99
• Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda Detergent Booster: if you enjoy super soft, odor free clothes, then this multi-tasker can take the odor out of sweat stained football uniforms. It will also leave the football uniform super soft.
All you have to do is add ½ cup to your load of laundry along with your regular detergent. The booster can be added to whites, colored or delicates. Try it and you’ll smell and feel its magic. Cost: $3.25
• 20 Mule Team Borax: This is an all-natural money saver that has been around for many years. 20 Mule Team has no chemicals but yet it is a powerful stain remover. It does soften hard water allowing your clothes to absorb more detergent. This is a saving for you because then you don’t have to use as much detergent. It works and saves you money. What a buy.
Do any of you remember the 20 Mule Team commercials in the early (60’s) years of television? The Booster is still around and working. Cost $3.99
• Dish Soap: The best grease cutter around is your dish detergent. If Dawn dish detergent can clean the birds of an oil spill, then you know the dish detergent can cut the grease. This is the least expensive of the laundry boosters but it does the grease stains.
Check your dish soap to be sure it has no bleach. You want to use a dish detergent with no bleach.
All you need to do is add a drop of dish detergent to the stain, rub well or use a toothbrush to rub the spot, rinse off excess soap and then toss the item(s) into the hottest cycle of the machine. Be sure to check the clothing labels for washing instructions. Cost: varies
Tip: be sure to take the time to read the information labels on laundry detergent and booster choices. If you are trying to be environmentally safe, please know that there are some manufacturers producing “good” detergents. Just remember to read what is on the package. You can also “Google” to get more information. Good Luck
Have a good week, enjoy the warm weather.
