SENTENCING - A Rooseveltown man faces a one year jail sentence after pleading guilty to a criminal contempt count in Massena Town Court. Donald R. Swamp, 48, of 19 County Route 45, Massena, entered a guilty plea after a felony count of first-degree criminal contempt was reduced to a misdemeanor charge of second-degree criminal contempt in a plea bargain agreement with the St. Lawrence County District Attorney’s Office. The agreement, which also satisfied a second second-degree criminal contempt count pending in Massena court, calls for Swamp to be sentenced to one year in the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility when he returns to court on March 21. He will be given credit for time he has already served at the county jail on the criminal contempt charge. Swamp had been charged Oct. 27 with raising a golf club over his head and telling a long-time female acquaintance, Sonya L. King, that she better let him into the apartment. Massena-based state police had charged Swamp with a felony count of first-degree criminal contempt, criminal possession of a weapon, second-degree menacing and resisting arrest. Ms. King refused to give a statement, according to court documents. Troopers said Swamp violated an order of patrol at 6:50 p.m. Oct. 26. He also reportedly struggled when troopers attempted to take him into custody. Swamp, then listing an address of 228 River Road, Hogansburg, had been jailed in March on a fourth-degree criminal mischief charge and criminal contempt count. According to court documents from that case, witnesses told police an allegedly highly intoxicated Swamp went to Ms. King’s apartment at Iroquois Village Apartments in Rooseveltown and tried to break in, tearing a window screen and bending the frame. He then allegedly kicked the door in, breaking the frame. Witnesses said the door and dead bolt were both locked, and Swamp’s girlfriend was not home at the time of the incident. Swamp is the father of Ms. King’s baby.
