A Voice from the Eastern Door
AKWESASNE MOHAWK TERRITORY—The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne is announcing that construction of the new low-level Three Nations Bridge is proceeding and that additional work will be starting this week on Kawehnoke (Cornwall Island), beginning with brush clearing.
Excavation for a pier will occur next week on the north shore of Kawehnoke located next to the existing bridge. The excavation will impact the snowmobile and ATV trail in that area. Efforts are being made to allow the trail to remain open while construction starts. Signs, barriers, and fencing will be installed to direct snowmobiles and ATVs around the construction site.
The trail will be closed at times during the excavation for public safety, as heavy equipment is moved around the site. Eventually the trail will be completely closed once roadwork is started. A second community announcement will be made at that time.
If possible, snowmobilers and ATV users are urged to avoid the area to ensure their safety.
