A Voice from the Eastern Door
The Salmon River Shamrocks Girls Basketball team avenged last year’s Section 10 finals loss to the Massena Red Raiders by defeating the Lady Raiders, 49-41 last Friday night in Massena.
Both teams came ready to play and the first half saw a see saw battle between the two teams. At the end of the first quarter, Salmon River lead, 17-12. In the second quarter the Raiders came roaring back and pulled ahead, 20-17 after an eight-point run. Salmon River standout, Abby Kelly, responded when she connected with a three pointer and back to back short range baskets by Kelli Cook helped the Shamrocks head into the locker room with a 24-20 lead.
In the third quarter the Shamrocks went back to work and outscored the Raiders 11-6. The Raiders did everything they could to come back in the fourth quarter but the Shamrocks wouldn’t let up and left town with the victory.
Marissa Manley (15-rebounds), Marissa Truax (10-rebounds) and Alisha Jacobs (7-rebounds, 5-assists) each netted 10 points each for Massena. Sidney Thompson played strong contributing seven points with four rebounds and three steals. Kallie Barnes (5-rebounds, 3-assists) and Emma Dupree chipped in two points each.
Abby Kelly (5-rebounds, 5-steals) had the game high of 22 points for Salmon River, which included 3-3 pointers and a 9-10 showing at the foul line. Karyss Terrance (6-rebounds, 3-steals) added nine points while Rylie Mainville (8-rebounds) and Anna Kelly (5-rebounds) dropped in five points each. Taylor Francis (10-rebounds) and Kelli Cook netted four points each.
