Re: Akwesasne Membership Board By-election

A by-election is being called for one four-year position in the District of Kawehno:ke. Although this position was acclaimed in October, 2011 nominations, the Chief Electoral Officer reversed the decision, which was subsequently appealed. An appeal was filed with the Akwesasne Election Appeal Board.

The appeal of the CEO’s decision was presented to the Akwesasne Election Appeal Board. Based on the matter before them, the Appeal Board declared that the matter appealed before this body did not have merit.

As a result, the four-year position for the Akwesasne Membership Board in the District of Kawehno:ke will go to a by-election.

The Chief Electoral Officer will hold nominations for the Akwesasne Membership Board four-year position on January 7, 2012 in accordance with the Akwesasne Membership Board Election Regulations.

Nominations will be held at the Tri-District Elders from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Advance Polls will be held on January 21, 2012, by appointment only.

The By-election will be held on February 11, 2012 at the Tri District Elders building from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
