A Voice from the Eastern Door
On Dec. 7, the ladies and gentleman enjoying cards, coffee and visiting at the Tri-District Elders Lodge on Kawehno:ke received special visitors who came with a gift. Representatives from the construction company Michels Canada, and Enbridge Gas, visited the elders and offered their thanks and appreciation for the community’s patience during recent gas pipeline work on Kawehno:ke.
Enbridge contracted Michels for the pipeline work that took place near International Road throughout the past few months. Because of the noise and inconvenience the project may have caused community members, Michels Canada approached the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne and inquired about possible organizations or charitable causes they could donate funds to as a token of appreciation.
On Wednesday, Michels Project Manager Glenn MacIntosh presented a check for $1500 to the Tri-District Elders. Elders representative Margie Thompson thanked Mr. MacIntosh and Enbridge representative Michael Tozer.
MCA Chiefs Abram Benedict and Larry King also attended the event and explained to the elders the relationship that MCA has been developing with Enbridge. In 2009 a Land Use Agreement was signed between the two and since then Enbridge has been committed to making lease payments and also to working together with MCA on community projects.
The elders, who take pride in their friendly and active facility and group, were thankful for the donation.
