AKWESASNE - Mr. Richard C. “Dit” Garrow, 47, of 227 Cook Road, unexpectedly passed away at his home on Tuesday, November 22, 2011.
Dit was born December 14, 1963 in Malone, the son of the late Alex J. and Roberta A. Cooke Garrow. He graduated from Salmon River Central School in 1982. He first married Lori King in May 1987, which ended in divorce. On May 30, 2002, he married Inez Cook in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, which ended in separation a year later.
Dit was a certified electrician, most recently working as a carpenter at the Medical Center St. Regis, Quebec. He once worked with Ironworkers Local #440 and had worked with Running Deer Construction in Hogansburg. Dit was an avid softball player and fan, enjoyed playing field lacrosse, darts and billiards. He also loved to write poems.
He is survived by his companion, Leah Delormier and her sons, Nicholas and Clayton of Akwesasne; his brothers, Raymond and Sandra Garrow of Hogansburg; Roland and Gloria Garrow of Cattaraugus Indian Reservation; Randy and Ava Garrow of Hogansburg; Roderick and Mabel Garrow of Snye; his sisters, Regina and Kenneth Boots of Hogansburg; Rebecca McCorkle of Hogansburg; Ramona Garrow and her companion, Dave Francis of Hogansburg; his beloved godchild, Joni Garrow; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his dad on January 9, 1983 and his mother on January 24,1990.
Friends may call the home of his brother and sister-in-law, Roderick and Mabel Garrow, Phillips Road, Snye beginning Thursday 8:00 PM until 10:00 AM Saturday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday 11:00 AM at St. Regis Catholic Church with Rev. Jerome Pastores, celebrating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Hogansburg.
