Akwesasne Warriors vs 1000 Islands Privateers- A Physical Affair

There will be many contests in the very near future and by the end of the season for the Akwesasne Warriors, the 2011 champs.  The 1000 Island Privateers have been the most recent contenders for the Warriors and both teams have displayed quite a bit of physical contact on ice during the games.  Four games in all for these two teams and the Privateers have taken three under their belt. Last week they were tied for the first spot along with New Jersey but now, the standings are: 1000 Island, New Jersey, Danbury and Akwesasne.  Following in rank are Brooklyn, Vermont, Cape Cod and Danville.

This coming Thursday, Danville will visit Akwesasne at the Massena Arena with a 7:00pm start.  Danbury will visit next with a 7:30pm start against Akwesasne.  Hopefully, the Akweasne Warriors can pull together and lift themselves back up into the higher standings to the top of the league.

Saturday’s game was a loss for Akwesasne at the A’nowara’ko:wa Arena 8-2.  One of the most rugged games displayed so far in the Federal Hockey League on Saturday.  It showed even swinging matches but the penalty minutes were lopsided, 99 for Akwesasne and 47 for the 1000 Islanders.

The only Warriors to score for the night were Pierre Dagenais and Carter Trevisani.  Adam Thompson came in to give David Plouffe a hand in nets during the second period.
