The Salmon River Girls Varsity Soccer team lost the New York State Class B Regional Semifinal to the Beekmantown Eagles 4-0 Tuesday evening at SUNY Potsdam. The Salmon River Shamrocks made it to the Semifinal round after beating Potsdam Sandstoners with a score of 3-0 in the Section X Class C Soccer Championship.
The Shamrocks started off the game strong in the first half but were dominated by the Eagles’ fast pace for the rest of the game. Goalkeeper for the Shamrocks, Amanda Reyome, kept her team within reach of winning with 20 saves, but the girls could not take back control of the game.
“If we had played our regular game,” said Coach Valancius. “It would have been a great game.”
The Shamrocks are losing 13 of their seniors this year and will be looking to start a brand new season next year. Beekmantown will advance to play Schalmont from Section II in the next round of the playoffs with a record of 14-0-1 leaving the Salmon River Girls Varsity Soccer team to finish their season at 14-4-1.
The Salmon River Shamrock Boys Soccer team also lost Tuesday night to the Beekmantown Eagles in the New York State Regional Semifinal in Plattsburgh by a score of 7-1. The Shamrocks made it this far by winning their previous game against Potsdam by a score of 1-0. That proved to be a very intense game winning the “B” Title in this phase of the playoff games.
The first few minutes of the game against Beekmantown was kept close at a score of 2-0, but the Eagles took control of the game and netted three goals in the first half and four more in the second half. The Shamrock’s only goal was scored by Shawn Avery in the second half of the game leaving Salmon River Boys Varsity Soccer team to finish their season off at 11-7-1.
