Mohawk School hosts pep rally for Varsity Teams
Salmon River Girls Varsity Volleyball, Girls Varsity Soccer and Boys Varsity Soccer team hanging out at the St. Regis Mohawk School after the pep rally held Tuesday.
Principal Thomas asked how many of the athletes were former students of the St. Regis Mohawk School and was proud of the response.

Soccer Coaches Chad Phippen and Kathy Valancius proud of their players- both are Physical Education teachers in the district and have watched their players develop from elementary school.

Salmon River managed to secure many new titles for three separate varsity teams this past fall including a Section X Overall title for Girls Varsity Volleyball, Section X Class B titles for Boys and Girls Varsity Soccer. St. Regis Mohawk School Principal Sharlee Thomas extended an invitation for these athletic champions to make a visit to the students at the school to show their school spirit this past Tuesday morning. Students were proudly wearing green that day and waved signs encouraging the athletes as they prepared to play in the state semi-final games that had been scheduled for later on in the week.
“How many of you athletes were former St. Regis Mohawk School students?” asked Thomas of the three teams who lined up in front of the student body at the St. Regis Mohawk School. The students themselves beamed as they saw how many alumni from the elementary school were now playing on these championship teams. Thomas then opened the pep rally to accept questions from the students.
Questions like, ‘who is your role model?’ and ‘who inspired you to play sports?’ were common among the future student-athletes who will one day be playing varsity sports at our local area schools. The most common response from the athletes was: their parents, their mother, their father or their older siblings who they had watched play sports while growing up. Developing into such stellar athletes has obviously been a family endeavor as it takes so much time and effort from the entire family to support each other as they play each season.
The entire pep rally was a great experience for everyone involved with encouragement given to both the players going off to the semi-final state playoff games; and to the elementary school students sending the message that if you work hard it could be you standing there in the future. The Coaches for each team also looked very proud of the great representation their players made during the pep rally. The Salmon River Boys and Girls Varsity teams both ended their season Tuesday night in the semi-final rounds of the Class B State Playoffs against Beekmantown. The Salmon River Girls Varsity Volleyball team is still undefeated and will be playing their Semi-Final State Playoff game tonight.
