A Voice from the Eastern Door
Red Ribbon Week is a national celebration to raise awareness about the harmful effects of drugs and alcohol, and the benefits of a drug free lifestyle. It is the largest anti-drug awareness event in the United States.
The Akwesasne Coalition for Community Empowerment hosted the Akwesasne Red Ribbon Family Challenge. This event included educational, fun and exciting activities throughout the week of October 24th-28th. Activities included a Suicide/Addiction Awareness Walk, presentation on Alcohol and its Effects, Puppet show, Pumpkin Carving Contest and the Obstacle Course of Minute to Win It Challenges.
The following teams were the winners:
Grand Prize of a $500 gift card to Walmart and a $500 gift card to BJ’s

Thank You to All the Teams for Participating this year! We hope everyone enjoyed themselves and learned something new. The Coalition thanks the following for helping to make this event a success: CKON and Indian Time for getting the information out there, St. Regis Recreation Committee for letting us collaborate with them on the Pumpkin Carving contest, Seniors Center for letting us use their building, St. Regis Mohawk School for letting us use their building.
