A Voice from the Eastern Door
Salmon River Central’s 2011 Graduating Class had 11 of its Varsity Hockey Team Players in it. With the determination of Coach Rob Seymour, Head Ice Hockey Coach of the Mohawk Valley Community College, he was successful in recruiting 9 of these 11 awesome athletes.
This past weekend in Morristown, New Jersey, at the Mennen Sports Arena, the boys had their first experience in playing college hockey. They played two games against the team from the Community College of Morristown. They were defeated on Saturday’s game by a score of 3-0 and again by 5-3 at Sunday morning’s game. The games were fast paced and highly physical. Our young athletes kept up and stayed fully committed throughout, never slowing down. In fact, on Sunday’s game, towards the end of 2nd period and into the 3rd, they started connecting, scoring the 3 goals that made the final score of 5-3.
Scoring for the team were:
1st goal scored by Nic Tardungo; assisted by Robert Rice.
2nd goal scored by Ryan Alesandro; assisted by Robert Rice & Jacob Swamp.
3rd goal scored by Robert Rice; assisted by Jacob Swamp.
It is very true what Coach Seymour said, these guys are only going to get better and stronger with each game.
Their next scheduled game is Mohawk Valley’s own home opener game on Wednesday, Oct 26th @ 7 pm where they’ll take on ‘Broome CC’. All in all, the team has 20 scheduled games before the National Tournament at the end of February 2012. This home-opener will be their 3rd.
The team will be playing against SUNY Canton on Sunday, November 6th @ 1 pm. This will be the closest they’ll get to Akwesasne for their game travels. So if you’re looking for some entertainment for a Sunday afternoon, come on out and show your pride and support to these young, talented athletes/gentlemen.
