A Voice from the Eastern Door
AKWESASNE- Mr. Harry Alden Thompson, age 78, of Sunrise Acres, passed away Thursday afternoon, September 8, 2011 at Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone, where he had been a patient since September 1st.
Harry was born February 26, 1933 in Washougal, WA, the son of the late Alexander and Ella Kilgor Thompson. He graduated from high school in Sand Point, Idaho. Harry served in the US Army during the Korean War. He married Glenda Parks at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Spokane, WA. After her illness, he dedicated his life to her care. Wanting to pursue a higher education, he enrolled at Gonzaga University, where he put himself through college earning a Mechanical Engineering Degree.
As a civilian mechanical engineer, Harry worked at Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane, WA retiring as a GS12 mechanical engineer. Before going to Fairchild, he worked for Kaiser Aluminum for 22 years, where he was a pourer in the cast room. Harry was a devout Catholic and was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Spokane, before moving back to Akwesasne. Harry enjoyed reloading bullets, hunting, fishing and anything to do with the outdoors. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren and do various activities with them, including picking huckleberries, and taking them out on “their” boat.
Harry is survived by his loving wife, Glenda, a resident of Tsiionkwanonhso:te; three daughters, Linda Vestal of Lewiston, ID; Melinda and Paul Thompson-Walk of Fort Covington; and Kim Thompson of Kent, WA; Seven grandchildren, Talya, Vincent, Michah, Asher, Hunter, Alyas, and Franklin; a sister, Anne Wilkson of Provo, UT; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Edward Wayne Thompson and a sister, Susie Thompson.
All services will be held in Washington at the convenience of the family at a later time.
