Altona-Danine R. “Dia” Swamp, member of the Eel Clan of the Onondaga Nation, age 24, residing at Ganienkeh Territory (Long House) on Ganienkeh, Altona died Monday, August 29, 2011 as a result of an automobile accident. She was born in Syracuse, New York on November 10, 1986 the daughter of Donald R. and Kelly M. Gibson-Swamp. Dia was a graduate of LaFayette Junior-Senior High School and Clinton Community College, where she graduated with Phi Theta Kappa Honors and was the Pitcher for the Women’s Softball Team. She was the Manager of Finances for the Ganienkeh Territory.
She was predeceased by her paternal grandmother Mary Swamp.
Dia is survived by her parents; Donald Swamp of Akwesasne and Kelly Gibson-Swamp of Onondaga, six siblings; Austin Cavender, Tiohne:kote Swamp, Raven Swamp, Natasha Korczak, Gemma Rain Swamp and Chelsey Swamp, her grandparents; Raymond Swamp of Ganienkeh, Rosetta McClairy and Erwin Gibson of Onondaga, a niece Kanenhawi Cavender, her uncles Chadwick Swamp and Sy Gibson, her aunts; Natalie Gibson and her husband Tehoronio David, Wanita Swamp, Jeannie Swamp and Lori Gibson-Gandard.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday August 31, 2011 from Sunrise to 1:00 p.m. at Ganienkeh Territory in Altona. A service will follow at 1:00 p.m. Calling hours will be held from 7:00 p.m. Wednesday to 10:00 a.m. on Thursday September 1, 2011 at her Aunts home on Duggetts Hill, Onondaga Nation, Long House Services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Onondaga Nation Long House, burial will be in Onondaga Nation Cemetery.
