American Indian communities suffer a disproportionately high rate of Type 2 Diabetes when compared with other populations in the U.S. and throughout the world. Although we face significant challenges in dealing with the epidemic of diabetes, there are many new opportunities and strategies that will help all of us strengthen our clinical, public health and community approaches to the problem of diabetes.

In Akwesasne, we currently provide a variety of programs targeted at addressing the problem, which, due to lack of space, are located in different locations throughout the community.

This donation of $65,000 to the “Diabetes Center for Excellence” Building Fund will help complete the final phase of the building development, which breaks ground later this fall.
