WPBS Television of Watertown made it possible for “Curious George” to visit some local libraries to promote youth reading.

George was created by Margaret and H.A. Rey. He appeared in 1941 with a tale of his capture in Africa by the man with the Yellow Hat who takes him on a ship to the “big city” where he will live in a zoo. With George and his mischievous ways, Margaret and H.A. Rey wrote many books thereafter.

Many youngsters were able to meet the famous ‘’Curious George”. Some gave waves and hi-fives. They were able to shake his hand and give hugs as well as take pictures with him. When story hour was over, each youngster received a “Curious George” book of their own. They also could make a mask of him and could color pictures.

Not only were the youngsters happy to see George, adults were happy too. It brought back some childhood memories of Curious George.

From the Potsdam Public Library, pictured in photo is “Curious George” and Autumn Skye-Elizabeth Rowe of Norwood. Autumn is the daughter of Candy Cooke-Rowe and Carl “Skip” Rowe. Autumn is also the granddaughter of Joseph B. and Andria Cooke of Akwesasne and Gloria Collette Cooke of Massena and the late Carl and Betty Rowe. She is the great granddaughter of the late John and Josephine (Herne) Cook of Akwesasne.
