A Voice from the Eastern Door
The Kahnawake Peacekeepers are investigating a home invasion and robbery this past weekend. Peacekeepers were called to a house near the Catholic Cemetery around 1 a.m. on Sunday morning.
Peacekeepers say four armed men tied up the elderly woman who lived in the house. During the ordeal, which lasted about two hours, the assailants assaulted her, put a gun to her head and forced her to open her safe. The suspects then robbed the house of anything of value.
Peacekeeper Investigator Warren White said the estimated value of the items stolen, which included cash, jewelry and gold, in the area of $500,000. White said the Peacekeepers have yet to identify any suspects. He said they were described as African-American and were wearing gloves and masks.
White said that the Peacekeepers are working on leads with the Montreal Police about the robbery and home invasion. White explained that they have information that a Montreal street gang was in the community over the weekend and the Peacekeepers are working with the Montreal Police on confirming that.
Luckily, the victim was not seriously injured in this ugly incident.
