Jr. B Indians are 0-2 in playoff series B

The Akwesasne Jr. B Indians began their second series of the 2011 playoff season against Halton Hills this past weekend. They played first on Saturday night with Halton Hills taking the early lead scoring in the first 31 seconds of the game.

Both teams proved to be an even match as they ended the first period tied at 3-3. Goals scored by the Indians in the first period go to T. Roundpoint, Z. Hopps and K. Davey. Starting off the second period in scoring, D. Hopps gave the Indians the first lead of the game bringing the Indians ahead 4-3. Scoring went back and forth until Halton Hills took the lead at 15:24 as they scored their sixth goal of the game. Ending the second period Halton Hills was ahead 5-8. O. Thomas scored the second goal of the period for the Indians at 9:30.

T. Roundpoint scored the first goal of the third period at 2:07 bringing the Indians deficit down to two goals, but his efforts would be futile as the Halton Hills offense scored again shortly after. A. Bomberry contributed a single and O. Thomas contributed two goals during the third period, but ultimately they were unable to overcome a consistent 2-point lead by Halton Hills. After an exciting game the Indians lost by a score of 9-11.

The Indians took to the floor for their second game against Halton Hills, having lost the night before by two points. It was a rough game as 112 minutes of penalties were issued between the two teams over the course of the 60-minute long game. D. Hopps scored the first and only goal of the period for the Indians at 11:00. Halton Hills managed to get three goals past the Indians goalie taking the lead at 1-3.

Halton Hills continued to keep the Indians at bay as they shut them out of the second period entirely, scoring two more goals in the process. At the end of the second period the score was 1-5.

Halton Hills continued on their scoring spree making another three goals before the Indians finally answered with a goal at 16:27. The Indians goalie, K. Horn-David took 36 shots on goal, saving 28 of them.

The Jr. B Akwesasne Indians will take to the floor again against Halton Hills in Georgetown on Friday, July 15 at 8:00pm. If they win and continue on in the best of five series, they will be playing Game #4 on Saturday away, and Game #5 on Sunday away both at Georgetown.
