A Voice from the Eastern Door
The Akwesasne Toastmasters received a grant for $2,000 from Best Buy in Watertown, NY. Manfred Laube, Distinguished Toastmaster from Watertown and Best Buy employee applied for the funds through his volunteer efforts in assisting Akwesasne Toastmasters establish a Toastmasters Club.
Best Buy gives out these grants and awards throughout the country. They normally don’t fund a project located 100 miles away from their store. Manfred was able to convince the funders that Akwesasne was a good project and the community utilizes the Watertown Best Buy. With his hard work and dedication a check in the amount of $2,000 was received by Akwesasne Toastmasters to be used in building a library and other club expenses.
Akwesasne Toastmasters just completed their inaugural year and it was a smashing success. The club earned the Select Distinguished Club status from Toastmasters International for completing 8 out of 10 objectives for the year. Two membership ribbons were also earned. For a first year club this is amazing.
The award follows a very successful open house held at the Kanatakon Recreation Center on June 8, 2011. Akwesasne Toastmasters meet at 6:00 every second and fourth Wednesday at the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino Human Resources Office located in the Speedway Convenience Plaza.
