Kahnawake Mohawks snap 2-game losing streak

After losing a home-and-home series with the Cornwall Island Redmen the Kahnawake Mohawks downed the Vermont Voyageurs on Sunday afternoon. The Mohawks lost 14-13 to the Redmen on Thursday at home and then dropped a 10-9 overtime decision in Akwesasne on Saturday night.

Vermont’s Ethan Farrell (Ben Berry, Brandon Dube) opened the scoring at 3:02 of the first period. Dan Deckelbaum (Dube) made it 2-0 at 5:32. At 5:48 of the first Kahnawake’s Jamie Rooney cut the lead to 2-1. Mike Dube (Alex Henderson) evened things up at 2-2 at 11:49. Gregory Rogowski (Deckelbaum) would give the Voyageurs a 3-2 lead at 12:21. Greg Diabo (Rooney, Markie Kirby) would tie it up for the Mohawks and then Rooney (Callum Crawford, Kirby) would give his team a 4-3 lead at 12:47. The Voyageurs would get two more goals to close out the period with a 5-4 lead.

Rogowski (Deckelbaum) gave the Voyageurs a 6-4 lead at 4:48 of the second period. Joe Frank Thomas (Crawford, Curtis Diabo) cut the lead to 6-5 at 6:55 of the second. Rooney (Diabo) scored his third of the game at 7:18 to tie it up at 6-6. Crawford (Kaniat Deer) would give the Mohawks a 7-6 lead at 8:04. Diabo (Bluecloud Lahache) made it 8-6 at 9:41. Mike Dube (Henderson) gave the Mohawks a 9-6 lead at 11:45. Rogowski (Deckelbaum) would make it 9-7 at 12:03. Rooney (Henderson) made it 10-7 at 14:05. Crawford (Deer, Diabo) would make it 11-7 at 14:52 to close out the second period.

Kahnawake’s Al Jones (Jarrod Splicer) made it 12-7 at 0:50 into the third period. Just 14 seconds later Thomas (Crawford, Rooney) made it 13-7. At 3:19 Mike Dube (Kirby, Crawford made it 14-7. Vermont’s Farrell (Deckelbaum) made it 14-8. Crawford (Lahache) would make it 15-8 at 8:52. Vermont would get three more goals to make it 15-11.

The Mohawks are next in action on Thursday night as they host the Montreal Phoenix at 8 p.m.
