A Voice from the Eastern Door
Concert to be held locally on Friday
“We aren’t what you think we’d be,” said local musician “Buck” Cook about the band he plays with called Arcane Belief who recently signed with a record company in Oklahoma. The band itself is comprised of four members, Cory White is the songwriter who also plays rhythm guitar and piano. Buck Cook collaborates with White on their songs, and it also the lead guitarist. Cory Jacobs is their lead vocalist who also plays Brass Guitar. The newest member is Duane Greenfield on drums, who has been described as being the best drummer by far in this area.
“My mom told me she didn’t know I could sing that well,” joked Jacobs, who has performed with other bands around the area.
Arcane Belief organized back in 2008 after a bet with White and a friend produced their first song. Within a few weeks White and Cook already had 2-3 songs written. Fast forward to two years the group recorded their demos and uploaded them to a website called ReverbNation, which is the leading online music-making platform used by over 1,399,000 artists. The purpose of this website is to allow artists, managers, labels and venues to grow through the Internet.
White uploaded their first acoustic versions of their songs and they quickly rose to the top of the Rock Charts. Currently holding strong at #4, Arcane Belief was contacted by record labels to sign a contract.
“We really have just gotten our foot in the door in the music industry,” said White when talking about this first contract that includes a photo shoot and three-day recording session to lay down 8 tracks to their first CD to be called “Wrong Side of Salvation”.
The sound of Arcane Belief ranges over many musical genres from soft rock to more hardcore music tracks. The versatility and background of these musicians allows them to pull-off their sounds that range from late 1970’s and early 1980’s inspiration, to some that is very Aerosmith-eque. With the growth of their accompaniment Jacobs will also be utilizing his piano skills in the near future in some of the tracks.
“I believe that the music we have can go places, although we are a Native American band we don’t just play to that audience,” said Cook when talking about the range of lyrical content.
The band will be driving to Oklahoma with their departure set for Saturday, June 18. Their photo shoot for album art will take place the day after they arrive, with studio time set for the 21-24. They have already been told by the record company to be prepared to spend 8 hours straight each day they have the recording studio booked.
If you are interested in listening to this band along with the Dirty Blues Project & 14 Knuckles Later a concert will be held at the American Legion in Akwesasne this Friday from 7:00pm-midnight. All proceeds from raffles being held will go towards to travel expenses for the band to go to Oklahoma.
