Louis P. Martin

AKWESASNE – Mr. Louis P. Martin, age 63, of Cornwall Island, passed away on Sunday morning, April 10, 2011 at Tsiionkwanonhso:te, Cornwall Island Long Term Care Facility.

Louis was born April 14, 1947 on Cornwall Island, the son of the late Richard and Anne Marie Thompson Martin.  He attended schools on Cornwall Island.  On November 24, 1990 he married Roberta Benedict at the St. Regis Catholic Church with Rev. Thomas Egan, officiating.

Louis was an ironworker with Local #440, Utica.  He enjoyed playing bingo, going to the movies, and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Roberta; 7 children, Dana “Petunia” Sunday of Akwesasne, Quebec; Joseph “Herk” Martin and his companion, Jamie Garrow of Akwesasne, NY; Nathan Samson Martin of Akwesasne, NY; Adam Martin of Cornwall, Ontario; Troy and Leah Benedict of Akwesasne, NY; Raeanne Benedict of Akwesasne, NY; and Dallas Martin of Oneida, NY.  He is also survived by his grandchildren, Oren, Jodie, Tayden, Makaya, Blaze, Tori, Kyra, Bow, Casey, Cayde, and Sterling; his brothers and sisters, Lena Martin of Cornwall Island, Ontario; Elizabeth Lazore and her companion, Carl Cook of Akwesasne, NY; Marion Curtis and her companion, Charles of Rochester; Pete Martin and his companion, Debbie Point of Cornwall Island, and Richard “Dick” and Carol Martin also of Cornwall Island; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, Tuesday and Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 PM.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday 2:00 PM at St. Regis Catholic Church. Cremation will follow.
