Akwesasne Peewee Jr. Wolves Hockey Team gold medal champs in Can/Am Tournament

On Friday March 25 the Akwesasne Peewee Jr. Wolves Hockey Team traveled to Lake Placid NY to participate in the Can/Am Tournament. On Friday we played against Pennsylvania Glaciers beating them on a score of 6-1. Later on that afternoon we went on to play the New Jersey Wolfpack tying them with a score of 3-3.

Saturday the 25th the players were ready to play more hockey. Up against the Grundy Senators, the Jr Wolves came out with a win of 4-2.

6 of our players then participated in a Skills Competition, Dyson Lazore (G), Kenan Herne (Shoot out), Nonkon Thompson, Atkwirate Tarbell, Sasta Thomas and Karenrons McDonald doing the Relay Race. It was a good experience for the players and Kenan Herne came in 1st place for the Shoot out.

With the kids pumped up for the semi-final, they prepared to take on the Grundy Senators for a re-match for 1st place. They would go on to win this game 4-1, sending them to play for Gold on Sunday.

Sunday was gold medal round. As the kids get ready in the locker room the pressure begins. Fans cheering them on in the stands, the game starts. 1st period goes by with no scoring. Second Period with 2:38 on the clock the Wolfpack score their first goal giving them a 1-0 lead. Going into the third period the Jr. Wolves knew they had to score in order for them to still be in the game, so they do so, Dylan Wylie scores a goal to tie it up 1-1 forcing over time. This game would go to 3 OT periods, and finally Nonkon Thompson scores the Winning Goal making Akwesasne Jr. Wolves the Gold Medal Champions of the Lake Placid Can/Am Tournament. Happiness and joy roared the arena as the kids congratulated their goalie and stood on the blue line to receive their gold medals. With a remarkable victory the Jr. Wolves skated off the ice with happiness and wearing their gold medals with pride.

Congratulations to the Akwesasne Jr. Wolves on winning the Gold! Excellent way to end our season!
